My favorite tattoo and the story behind it
My mom passed away really unexpectedly in 2009 during a year that was already marked with a lot of tragedies in my life. Losing a parent isn't something you ever get over and learning how to live without them can e incredibly challenging. I spent alot of time thinking about how to honor her life and I decided to have my tattoo artist draw up the top portion of my sleeve in a classic, nautical theme. I have her name on the ship, Patricia Marie, and a swallow tattoo above it signifying her "coming home safely" with God- she was very religious and I find peace in knowing she's in Heaven now.
My first tattoo and the story behind it
I was visiting family in South Florida on vacation with my mom. Friends of the family were going to the Tattoo Shop to get some work done and they convinced my mom to let me get one too. I was 16 at the time and was shocked my mom who didn't even get her ears pierced until she was 40 years old- signed for me to get a tattoo! I picked a Japanese character that meant star because it reminded me of all the stars in the clear Michigan sky I would climb on the roof to my parents country home to gaze at.
My next tattoo
I haven't completely finished my sleeve yet. I think I will likely get a female Sugar Skull similar to my gypsy tattoo and I've wanted to get a Phoenix with the color of a Peacock on my back for quite awhile.
