Myself, in a sentence
I'm supposed to describe my entire being in a sentence? I am a 20 year old barista, bartender, marketing consultant and student. I was born and raised in Boulder CO. I am quirky, outgoing, firey and passionate, but balance this with a cooler, logical, and more structured side. I value respect, honesty, integrity, love, happiness, peace, positivity and intelligence. I thrive in the subtle beauty of everyday things. I am always moving forward, growing, learning, and being. I am very close with my family and have learned so much about love, caring, and morality from them. I would not be who I am today with out the love they have shown me [even though they're crazy 90% of the time... well so am I]. I am proud of who I am and where I'm going, and I have the ink to prove it!
My favorite tattoo and the story behind it
My favorite tattoo is the birds on my back. They represent Hugin and Munin, who are the God Odin's ravens from norse [viking] mythology. One stands for thought, one for memory. The birds are symbolic of my family and my heritage. My mother's side of the family is all predominantly Swedish and Norwegian, so our Scandinavian blood and traditions run deep. Ravens have also always been sacred to me, as they always seem to flock and nest around me and my family, but not in a way that was frightening or bad, in more of a beautiful and solemn sort of gesture. The tattoo was drawn for me by my very dear friend Sami, who was my pseudo-sister for many years of my childhood. She gave me the drawing for my 19th birthday. The tattoo was done by David, who is another very close friend who has done all my tattoos save one. It is in the center of my shoulder-blades, which always makes me feel as though I derive some sort of internal power from that spot. It means everything to me.
My first tattoo and the story behind it
My first tattoo is the one on my wrist, just the word "Together". It is a reminder every day to live by my personal understanding of the flow of the universe and that all of humanity is connected at a very basic level. I feel this connectivity when I am at a concert, and all the people around me are swaying and moving and cheering to the same beat, all united in the most basic and beautiful way possible. "Together" is the universal heartbeat its the one thing we all share no matter what. It is the principal I live by and I will never forget it.
My next tattoo
I'm starting work on a half sleeve on my left arm with a local artist that I'm super stoked for. I would like my body to be a collection of art, and so I am doing what I have done with alot of my tattoos and just basically letting him do whatever he wants. His tattoos and drawings are always very beautiful and full of motion and color, so I'm excited to see what he comes up with! Goin in to get started on Thursday!! I'm also planning on getting another one drawn by my very dear friend and teacher of a beautiful and freaky looking monster on my left leg.
