Myself, in a sentence
I'm a tattoo collector, play pretender, lipstick lover - as free a spirit as ever you'll meet.
My favorite tattoo and the story behind it
The sugar skull on my left forearm with the butterfly resting on it is the most special tattoo I have. My husband was in the Army and spent time overseas. When he finally made it back home, he was suffering from PTSD and it eventually killed him. Gabe loved tattoos as much as I do, and was working on a full sleeve of skulls. We had made a deal: I would get a skull if he would get a butterfly. Since we never got the chance to make that happen, when he passed, I decided I would get them both, to remember him by.
My first tattoo and the story behind it
You can't actually see it anymore, thank god. This is a great lesson to anyone who's considering their first tattoo: I did no research, about the shop, artist or even what I really wanted. As soon as I turned 18 I was so excited to go get my first tattoo, I ran to the shop right down the street from my house and spent less than half an hour choosing a crappy little piece of flash off the wall. An hour later, I walked out with a 3 inch green lizard on the back of my left shoulder. It looked ok at first, but by the time it finished healing I already knew I wanted to cover it up. So my 2nd tattoo came a couple years later; after much thought and consideration, I had the lizard made into my first butterfly. I loved the idea that I could change myself, just like the butterfly, I could reinvent myself into something beautiful and free. Now the butterflies run from my back to my wrist on my left arm.
My next tattoo
I'm currently working on my left sleeve, filling in the background behind the butterflies. After that I'm thinking matching bows on the back of my thighs! Then a pinup on my right arm. Can't wait :D
